A Focus on Community Health

In order to maintain basic community health in the remote countryside, communities select a representative to be their Health Promoter. Once trained by ASAPROSAR, the community Health Promoter monitors the immunization records, teaches families how to avoid infection and prevent diseases such as acute diarrhea, and helps their community improve basic sanitation and water quality.

This program combines the efforts of rural health promoters in each village with a professional staff of doctors and nurses in area clinics. The focus is on preventive health care through education about maternal and child health, nutrition, reproductive and sexual health, HIV/AIDS, eye care, vaccinations, latrines, and water treatment. The program also offers primary care and when necessary, referrals to regional hospitals.
